The construction of the operation and maintenance base for the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III offshore wind farms will begin in Łeba later this year, employing around 100 specialists. Employment prospects and work on the construction of the base and offshore wind farms were discussed by representatives of investors at a meeting with the residents of Łeba and the surrounding area on March 19th.

Equinor and Polenergia have signed the final contracts for the detailed design and foundation engineering for the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III projects. The development and engineering of the monopile foundations for both offshore wind projects located in the Baltic Sea will be prepared by Danish company Rambøll. These signed agreements mean another milestone in the project development has been completed, a project of major strategic importance to Poland’s energy security.

The "Local Information Point" has started its activity in Łeba. This is the first year-round information and educational point in Poland about offshore wind energy. Siemens Gamesa has been selected as the preferred supplier of offshore wind turbines for the two Baltic projects jointly developed by Equinor and Polenergia. The signed agreement provides for the delivery of powerful modern direct drive SG 14-236 DD turbines with an impressive capacity of up to 15 MW for the offshore wind farm projects MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III. Thus, Equinor and Polenergia were the first among the companies implementing offshore wind farm projects in Poland to select their turbine supplier.

Equinor and Polenergia have signed final agreements with the supplier of foundations for the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III offshore wind farms. The Dutch company SIF Netherlands B.V. will produce 100 monopiles for both projects. Monopiles are key components necessary for the implementation of investments of strategic importance for the Polish energy transition.

The pace of energy transformation in Poland and the impact of investments in offshore wind farms on it were the main topics of the meeting with the inhabitants of the Słupsk Commune. Its participants also asked about the Baltic II and Baltic III projects, including the route of the cable connecting the sea and land parts of offshore farms. It was another information meeting organized by Equinor and Polenergia as part of consultations and dialogue with the local community.

Construction permits for the Baltic II and Baltic III offshore wind farms, and further preparing the Baltic I farm project for auction are the most important milestones Equinor and Polenergia expect in 2024. The last 12 months have brought the implementation of the Baltic projects much closer. Three wind farms with a total capacity of 3 GW will supply more than 4 million households with renewable energy.

By 2030, wind farms of close to 6 GW are to be built in the Baltic Sea. In the next 10 years, this capacity will increase to 11 GW. Among the planned investments are three projects jointly implemented by Poland's Polenergia and Norway's Equinor: MFW Bałtyk I, MFW Bałtyk II and the MFW Bałtyk III. Their combined capacity is 3 GW, and this will allow up to 6 million Polish households to be supplied with clean, renewable energy per year.

Equinor and Polenergia have signed contracts for the design, manufacture, supply and installation of inter-array cables and export cables for the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 1.44 GW. These are further components necessary for the implementation of key investments for the Polish energy transition.
