Offshore wind energy at the Feast of Łeba

Equinor and Polenergia jointly celebrated the 665th anniversary of the granting of municipal rights to Łeba. Residents and tourists could visit our stand and ask questions about offshore wind farms. One of the many attractions was the opportunity to prepare a delicious cocktail in a blender powered by an ecological energy generator.

Equinor and Polenergia are jointly investing in the Baltic Sea and will soon start construction of the offshore wind farm projects MFW Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III with a total capacity of 1440 MW. Łeba is becoming the centre of Equinor and Polenergia's offshore wind energy and operations in the Baltic Sea. In 2025, a base and service port will be put into operation here to service nearly 100 wind turbines.

"665 years is a long history and a beautiful tradition, but we also look to the future, and for Łeba this includes offshore wind energy. Thanks to the OWF Bałtyk II and OWF Bałtyk III projects implemented by Equinor and Polenergia, Łeba will become the centre of offshore wind energy in Poland, the city will get another development impulse, new jobs will be created - not only in Łeba, but also in the whole region." - says Andrzej Strzechmiński, Mayor of Łeba.

During the Łeba Days, citizens and tourists alike visited the stand of Equinor and Polenergia in large numbers, where they could ask questions about renewable wind energy and the offshore wind farms MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III. Many people were surprised at how efficient offshore wind turbines are. Just one rotation of the rotor is enough to produce clean electricity to meet the needs of one household for four days.

Visitors to the stand were also able to see for themselves how renewable energy sources work by preparing a delicious cocktail in a blender powered by an eco-friendly gear.

"We were delighted to be invited by the local authorities to the celebration of Leba. We want Equinor's presence in Poland to contribute to a smooth energy transition. The service base for the MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III wind farms in Łeba is a long-term investment that will be the heart of our operations in the Baltic Sea for decades to come. We want to be involved in the development of local communities, building the local supply chain and preparing and educating personnel for our investments," - states Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, President of the Management Board of Equinor Poland.

"In Łeba we feel the good energy that allows us to develop our Baltic projects efficiently. Without good cooperation with local stakeholders and without cooperation with foreign partners - we would not be a pioneer and one of the leaders of the new offshore market in Poland today, which supports environmental protection and changes the Polish economy towards the better, zero-emission one" - emphasises Maciej Stryjecki, Director of Polenergia Group's Offshore Wind Farms Department.

The implementation of the MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III projects will not only provide a renewable and efficient source of energy, it will also intensify the development of Łeba through new investments and new jobs.
